R05 is a Certificate level examination which is an integral part of the Diploma suite of examinations. Even though it is a Certificate level examination, it deserves the same rigorous approach to study as the diploma subjects. The examination has a duration of one hour and is comprised of 50 multiple choice questions. The syllabus covers the following topics:
- Market factors and trends in financial protection
- Establishing the Need by analysing key personal factors
- The various types of life assurance, the taxation treatment and qualifying/non qualifying policies
- Trusts, wills, assignments, underwriting and claims
- State Benefits
- Financial solutions covering illness and injury
- Income Protection Insurance
- Critical Illness Plans
- Long Term Care Insurance
- Other personal based plans such as Personal Accident and Sickness
- Business Protection
